Advantages and disadvantages of LVDS

 

The advantage of LVDS is that it has strong anti-interference ability. Because it is a differential pair, this pair of "lines" will couple well. When there is interference, crosstalk or a discontinuous return plane from the outside, it will affect the differential pair at the same time, so it is equivalent to no impact; the second is that the EMI impact is small, mainly because the polarity of the differential pair is opposite, and the difference is reached. Electromagnetic fields can cancel each other; third, the influence of switching noise is small, the main reason is that each signal has its own return plane, so the signal is not easily affected by switching noise when it passes through the connector or package; fourth is the signal receiving ability is strong. In the case of high noise, since the signal is determined by the difference of the differential pair, the value of the signal is equivalent to 2 times of the single-ended signal, which has the effect of amplifying the signal, so the receiving ability is very good in the application of low signal level . One of the most obvious shortcomings of LVDS is that it uses one more signal line, which occupies more than twice the PCB area of a single-ended "line"; another shortcoming is that the design is complex, and many design rules need to be understood before design.
