South Korea's LG and Samsung TV war extended to 8K field
According to BusinessKorea, the TV war between Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics is shifting from QLED TVs and OLED TVs to 8K TVs and OLED TVs.
Samsung Electronics, which launched the industry's first 8K TV last year, has been stepping up its efforts to dominate the global 8K TV market.
The resolution of 8K TV is 16 times clearer than that of Full HD TV and 4 times clearer than 4K UHD TV. Samsung aims to create synergy by applying 8K TV technology to QLED TVs.
Samsung unveiled its 8K TV technology roadmap at the 8K Display Summit. Earlier this year, it launched the "8K Alliance" in cooperation with 10 major overseas TV manufacturers and panel manufacturers, including Japan's Panasonic and China's Hisense, and discussed 8K standardization.
However, because it is difficult to apply it to large OLED panels, LG Display has become a latecomer to 8K TV technology. It launched an 8K TV panel this month. LG Display is sparing no effort to expand the OLED TV market. This year, 15 global companies have joined the OLED TV Group.
